Apple Introduces The Apple Watch Ultra, a Large-Screen Design for Athletes and Explorers That Starts at $799

Apple revealed the Apple Watch Ultra today at its “Far Out” media event, a new feature-rich wristwatch for sports and explorers with an all-new design, a huge flat sapphire crystal display, an additional programmable Action button, and cellular as standard.

Larger, Brighter, and More Powerful

The 49mm titanium case houses the brightest Apple Watch display yet at 2,000 nits, which is twice as bright as previous models, as well as a larger Digital Crown that is more robust and capable. It has a battery life of 36 hours and is going to have a potential of up to 60 hours through the upcoming low-power battery optimization setting which will be available during the fall.

Apple claims that the Apple Watch Ultra has adequate battery life for most users to complete a long-course triathlon, which includes a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle ride, and a 26.2-mile marathon.

New Action Buttons

The all new Action button which in a high-contrast with international orange may be easily configured to provide a quick access to myriad features such as those of Workout, the Compass Waypoints, Backtrack, and many more. The Apple Watch Ultra also has three built-in microphones to boost voice call sound quality, as well as new improved wind noise-reduction algorithms to provide clearer and more comprehensible audio for calls.

Battery Life

The Apple Watch Ultra also has new Series 8 capabilities such as a body temperature sensor, enhanced cycle tracking, worldwide roaming on cellular versions, and automobile crash detection.

The latest watchOS 9 also introduces new advanced running metrics to measure performance, such as Stride Length, Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscillation, and Running Power, as well as new Workout Views, such as Segments, Splits, and Elevation, which can take advantage of the Ultra’s larger display by showing up to six metrics at once.

Bands Created for the Great Outdoors

The Trail Loop band is the thinnest Apple Watch band to date, designed primarily for endurance athletes and runners. The lightweight woven cloth is soft and flexible, allowing it to cinch to the perfect fit, and the handy tab allows for quick and easy adjustment.

The Alpine Loop band has been designed by Apple keeping adventurers in mind, with two inter-woven layers manufactured through one continuous weaving technique that removes the need for stitching. The top loops, which are interlaced with high-strength yarn, allow for adjustment and secure attachment of the titanium G-hook fastener.

Apple also has bands for hikers, divers, and runners, including an Alpine loop band, an Ocean band, and a super-thin Trail Loop.
