Weibo user “Technology Meow” on August 29 said that the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has certified a new smartphone with the codename “BAL-AL80,” which is widely believed to be an offshoot of the Huawei P50 Pocket vertically foldable smartphone (MIIT). Photos from the official website suggest that the new smartphone will feature a design based on simple leather and glass, and it is scheduled for release on September 6 at the Mate 50 series product launch conference.
It’s possible that HUAWEI is already working on the successor to the HUAWEI P30 Lite, another clamshell folding phone. The company recently announced that it will release the Mate 50 series on September 6th, and on the same day, photos of what appear to be the next iteration of its clamshell folding gadget surfaced online.
The new entry has been made into the TENAA database, although there are currently very few defining characteristics available. The only data presented is the battery’s capacity: 4260 mAh. Remember, the P50 Pocket has a 4000 mAh battery.

This smartphone, in contrast to the P50 Pocket, uses a design based on glass and standard leather. If the smartphone’s back is made of regular glass, rather than tempered glass, the device’s pricing and position in the market could be lower than those of the P50 Pocket. Higher placement is warranted if, however, this glass can serve as a secondary display or perform some other useful purpose.
Huawei introduced its foldable P50 Pocket smartphone in December of 2018. It uses a stacked circular outside screen and lens components to create a double ring design. The 6.9-inch pliable display utilizes a 21:9 aspect ratio, 2790 x 1188 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate, and P3 color management. The screen’s flatness has been increased by 28% thanks to a new generation of hinges.
The Huawei P50 Pocket has a Snapdragon 888 4G processor and a built-in 4000mAh battery, and it is capable of receiving Huawei’s quick charging at up to 10V/4A.
